Jeni Ascosi is a movement artist based in the Catskills of New York, USA.

A transdisciplinary artist whose primary medium is dance, Jeni explores the interrelationship of landscape and human consciousness.

A rigorous choreography and performance career in her 20s and early 30s saw Jeni working primarily with Philadelphia-based modern dance companies in a wide range of styles as well as exhibiting her solo and group choreography. Highlights include The Rome Opera Festival in Rome, Italy; The Philadelphia Fringe Festival in Philadelphia, PA; and The Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her versatility, reliability, and notable presence as a soloist made Jeni a sought-after dancer and guest artist for numerous projects.

At 30 years old, a series of compounded injuries left Jeni barely able to walk. She spent the next ten-plus years resting and stripping away her technical training, with the intention of touching the center of her moving-dancing being. With the support of a Masters degree in Dance & Somatic Well-Being, Jeni outwardly continued her work in somatic movement education. Inwardly, she turned her attention to the cellular level, delving into the subtleties of micro-movement to inspire new creative possibilities.

A poetic and rhythmically textured language of expression emerged from this deep-listening time. Although remaining mostly quiet in her artistic output for almost 15 years, Jeni produced work in collaboration with artists and makers in the fields of film, architecture, environmental education, photography, and trauma-informed therapies.

Now in her late 40s, Jeni is beginning again. Her current projects turn intimately and courageously towards dissolution and emergence— in body, perception, relationship, and environment. In this time of the sixth extinction, she celebrates what is possible when we allow the wisdom of the body and direct connection with nature to invigorate and enflesh new forms, amplifying well-being and dynamic interrelationship with all life.

Jeni is a fiscally sponsored artist with The Field, a 501(c)(3) artists organization. Support Jeni’s vision and artistry through a tax-deductible donation.
